Support the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP)

Washington, D.C., Oct. 15, 2007 – United Methodist Women members are asked to act now to ensure health care for the nine million children living without health insurance. Directors of United Methodist Women’s administrative body, Women’s Division, affirmed the moral obligation to provide health insurance to all children in the United States at a recent meeting.

The State Children's Health Insurance Program (S-CHIP) was created in 1997 and expired on Sept. 30, 2007. The President vetoed “All Healthy Children Act” (S.1564/H.R.1688) that would authorize states to expand health care coverage of children in families with low-incomes to include nearly four million more children. Women’s Division directors were asked to work with United Methodist Women Conference Mission Teams to call for an override of the President's veto of the compromise bill (S.1564/H.R.1688).

Act now to ensure health care for the nine million children living without health insurance.
