The Community and Institutional Ministries program unit of the General Board of Global Ministries, United Methodist Church, is a combination of nine distinct but highly collaborative program areas:
Shalom
Communities of Shalom bring wholeness and well-being to neighborhoods by renewing the spirit of God in congregations, fostering community economic development, strengthening neighborhood relationships, and improving health care and local services.

Community Developers
Through the Community Developers Program, congregations partner with their communities to raise awareness, take action and heal social ills such as a lack of affordable or transitional housing, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, poverty and inadequate education.

Women, Children, Families
Ministries with Women, Children, and Families help congregations and communities respond to persons struggling with poverty, violence, abuse, exploitation, and other challenges.

National Mission Institutions
The "Caring Connection" of National Missions Institutions includes 103 community centers, schools, colleges, health care facilities and women's residences.

SPSARV develops UMC leadership to provide ministries of prevention, treatment and advocacy as they respond to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues.

Town and Country Ministries serve communities and churches located in isolated areas, rural villages, country seat towns, and small cities.

Urban Ministries
Urban Ministry Training and the National Holy Boldness Urban Academy train conferences and churches to respond to drug abuse, poverty, crime, violence, poor education, substandard housing, and other urban challenges.

Cooperative Ministries
The Cooperative Ministries Team brings general church agencies together to plan collaboratively for the development of cooperative and shared ministries in The United Methodist Church and ecumenical settings. These ministries benefit from leadership and resource development, research and advocacy - all of which are critical to their growth and success.

Through UMVS, we are in solidarity with volunteer-based groups that challenge unjust political, social and economic systems which drain the energy and resources of the poor.
