Installation Services
An installation service may have several facets: It recognizes the added responsibilities officers have; it may charge them with a task; it may require a commitment from them and/or from the group that has elected them. Often a token or gift is presented to the officers symbolizing a spiritual gift or a hope or a vision. The service is often in the form of a worship service with hymns and prayers signifying the nature of our organization and the spiritual aspect of our work.
These installation services have been gathered from many places, some have been adapted from other services by the folks who used them. Many thanks to those who contributed these services, especially Susan Edwards, Jeri Stoneking, Leora Hatch, Lynne Froning, Ruth Ann Wilson, Jo Eva McClellan, and Cheryl Edwards.
While some of these services are expressly for a local unit, any of them can be altered to be used for any part of the organization. When it says local unit, you may insert the name of your conference or district, for instance. These services can be used as is, or as models for you to create your own installation service. Modify the symbols, make these services useful and meaningful in your own context. Choose different hymns, or prayers; add poetry or a colorful worship center. Be creative!
These services may be duplicated as needed.
Other installation services are available in Ceremonies, Ceremonies II, and Ceremonies III as well as the February 1997 issue of Response magazine.
