Literacy
Global Ministries supports literacy work around the world. For example:
- An UMCOR program in Zimbabwe pays school fees for the most vulnerable children so that they can get an education.
- A United Methodist Women's program trains Bible Women who are making a vital difference in their communities around the world.
- More than 8,000 children have a better place to go to school because of a project completed in 2006 by UMCOR Afghanistan.
In particular, girls' education is an important factor in other areas of concern like reducing poverty, reducing HIV infection, and generally making the world a better place for both women and men.
Bible Women
Bible Women are indigenous women who lead Bible studies while also teaching literacy in their communities.
